The concept of a "lens of life" beautifully describes how each of us perceives the world through a unique combination of experiences, beliefs, and emotions, like a camera with an evolving filter. My lens has been tinted by various shades over time, influenced by family bonds, friendships, and the quiet wisdom found in life's simple moments. It's been a journey to recognize these influences and understand how they shape the way I see myself and the world around me.
Growing up, I often felt a bit out of place. I wanted to blend in, to belong, so I adapted to the environment around me. I immersed myself in the culture I found myself in, adding a mix of admiration and yearning for connection. This phase taught me resilience and adaptability, and it introduced me to a newfound appreciation for diversity. With each new experience, my perspective broadened, and I began to see beauty in different ways of life.
College brought another shift in my worldview, as I found myself among people who shared aspects of my background. Oddly, instead of feeling completely at home, I discovered a deeper longing for the familiar rhythms of the people that I grew up with. This phase taught me that identity is more complex than a single set of experiences; it's a tapestry of different influences that shape us. I feel as if I am the odd one out and miss out on the jokes when my friends talk and it has always made me feel bad all along but that is just part of how my lens view it.
It’s these little moments, simple yet profound, that I hold close. As I’ve grown, I’ve come to realize that happiness is often found in these fleeting details: a shared smile, a favorite song, a quiet afternoon with loved ones. I’ve made it my goal to reconnect with that version of myself who finds joy in such small wonders.
Now, as I try to live more in the present, I find that my lens has become clearer and more focused on what truly matters. I aim to notice beauty in the mundane, to treasure conversations, music, and nature as lifelong memories in the making. Each day feels like a chance to refine this lens, shaping it with gratitude and curiosity. I’ve come to see life as a journey of discovering and embracing who I am at each stage, through the unique lens I carry.
