A vivid memory of my first 'kitchen toy set' lingers in my heart, intertwined with memories of my cousins. My cousins and I used to meet often during vacations in December at my home in Chennai. We would dance together, sing songs, go on rides, play countless games, and eat whatever we craved for. My cousin sister and I exchanged clothes and accessories, enjoying every moment of each other's company.
I remember having a small, cute table adorned with a series of numbers and alphabets. We loved sitting at that table alongside two little chairs for lunch and dinner. My dad would take us to so many beautiful restaurants and ice cream shops, which remain in my heart as cherished and amazing memories. We visited places like the Robot Restaurant, Barbeque Nation, Ibaco, coffee shops, and many more popular spots.
Once, we met in Kerala for their housewarming function. My brother, cousin sister, cousin brother, and I spent time together then. We played a cooking game with the kitchen set that my cousin sister had. It was so vibrant, with colorful little utensils and an adorable kitchen to go along with it. Since I liked it so much, she even offered to give it to me, which was so sacrificial and kind of her. However, it turned out to be a birthday gift from a couple of her well-wishers. My cousin brother then offered to buy me a new one. I hadn't really expected him to actually follow through, but despite it being a busy week, he managed to go to the store and get one for me.
It was a wooden set with steel utensils and a stove. It looked so pretty. When I saw it, I was shocked and loved it, though I couldn't express my feelings properly at that moment . To be honest, the reason I loved my sister's kitchen set was because it was vibrant and colourful, but the one I got, leaned more toward a silver aesthetic, which I wasn’t expecting. Still, the effort and love he put into it were indescribably heartwarming, and that made the cooking set very special. It became my first cooking set, and every time I used it, I remembered them.
I am someone who loves receiving gifts more than anything, and they, as a family, have given me so much, for which I am eternally grateful. I love you both more than you know. ♡
